This is the primary ingredient to a life of happiness and contentment. Evaluate your life and measure how balanced your life is. DO YOU HAVE SUFFICIENT INCOME TO MEET YOUR NEEDS? This goes beyond having enough money for housing, food, and clothes. Do you have enough income to meet your basic needs and to pursue your hobbies, take a nice vacation, and splurge on yourself from time to time? HOW IS YOUR SOCIAL LIFE? Are you able to get out of the house as much as you’d like and spend quality time with others? If you’re a loner, you might only need a couple of friends. A social butterfly will require more. ARE YOU SPIRITUALLY FULFILLED? You might not need to live like a monk on a mountaintop, but perhaps you need a few hours alone in a peaceful location each week. ARE YOU RECEIVING ENOUGH LOVE? Love can come from a variety of sources. Parents, children, significant other, close friends, and pets are a few sources of love. Are you getting enough? ARE YOU HEALTHY? So, I realize I must strive each day to depend more on myself. Life requires me to be self-reliant. To me, being self-reliant means that I can stand alone and do what I need to do. I plot my own direction. I know I can do anything on my own. It brings me comfort to know that I am okay regardless of what happens. My self-sufficiency empowers me to do whatever I believe is right or best for each situation. I determine my own destiny. When I encounter a rough patch, I give myself time to consider my options. I ask things like, “How do I want to handle this situation?” and “Which option can bring me the most positive result?” Ultimately, I know I can prevail because of my self-reliance. Sometimes, being self-reliant means knowing who to go to for help. I learn from the experience of others who are more knowledgeable in whatever I am pursuing. Then, my own knowledge and wisdom increases, building my self-reliance and confidence even more. Today, my capacity to handle things on my own is at its highest because of my self-reliance.
